The 19 year old star from Norman, Oklahoma had a spectacular week of racing which resulted in being crowned the honor of TDN’s ‘Driver of the Week’. Christopher Bell stunned the World of Outlaws last Wednesday at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois to score his first career WoO win. Christopher Bell’s $6,000 feat didn’t come easy as he had to fight off defending series champion Daryn Pittman and 5-time champ Donny Schatz. As if that wasn’t enough, Bell worked the field just three days later to score the USAC Midget win at Belle-Clair Speedway. The teenage sensation has been a front runner for years in the open wheel ranks but this year he has kicked it up a notch. The wins were Bell’s 2nd this year in a 410 sprint car and 5th of the season behind the wheel of a midget.
The “Wild Child” seems to have found some speed in the Destiny Motorsports no. 9W. In recent ASCoC action, the Wooster, Ohio native scored a runner up finish at Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway and picked up the win the following night at Mercer Raceway Park. The recent successes have rejuvenated the team as they have set their sights on the World of Outlaws’ Central PA swing this coming weekend at Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway.
Dalton, Ohio’s Jacobs had a weekend that was equally as impressive as Haudenschild, literally. On Friday night Jacobs won his first career ASCoC race when he topped the 27 car field at Lernerville, with Haud finishing a close 2nd. On Saturday night at Mercer the roles were reversed as the hard-charging Jacobs finished runner up to the slightly faster Haudenschild.
In a week where rain affected a large portion of the country, it was Ohio racer Craig Mintz that took advantage of the fortunate weather they received. Veteran driver Mintz wheeled his 410 sprint car to a perfect 2-for-2 record this weekend when he topped the fields at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway. The pilot of the no. 09 machine broke two droughts with his wins this weekend. It was his first time in Attica Raceway Park victory lane since last summer and his first visit to the victory lane at Fremont in three years.
